One of our favorite things to do in between conventions and circus events is performing with our local burlesque troupe, SLO Tease. Captained by Rick and Miss Loo, this group has been evolving and improving since its creation several years ago, making it an underground staple of San Luis Obispo night life. Each show is new and unique and we have enjoyed contributing our considerable talents to the troupe to help create fascinating shows for our audiences.
This particular show had no set theme, but several themes evolved over time during rehearsals and feedback both as a group and as individuals. An overarching aspect of this show was the high energy and high technicality in each piece, whether it was comedic or serious, silly or athletic. Every person was committed to their pieces and that showed on stage under the fantastic lighting abilitys of Ethereal FX.
Eve Riot has two pieces in this particular show, her second group number and her solo. The group number consisted of fellow CdB performer Poppi Fleur and SLO Tease veteran Dreamboat Willie. Taking the song, "Yoga" by Janelle Monae, literally, these three came on stage to find their inner yogi peace, but with some trouble along the way.
This was a comedic piece, meant to bring laughs from each character portrayed on stage, and each "basic bitch" did his or her best. With Poppi performing each move with elegant grace and contortion, Eve Riot suffered, letting the audience know exactly what she thought about this perfect performer. While these two mean girls duked it out, Dreamboat Willie allowed himself the occasional drink on stage and a few prat falls besides. All three slowly removed their work out gear to make their final poses and namaste the audience to roaring applause.
Before we get to Eve Riot's other piece, let's take a moment to talk about our delightful guest performer Kitty Bangbang, who also had two pieces in this show, after all she did come on stage right after "Yoga"! She took the stage with Madam Mim, another amazing performer of SLO tease for a devilish fan dance. The two ladies in their belly dancing gear, giant horns, and black and red fans, hypnotized the stage to "Wicked Game" by Bassaboosaa. Although fan dancing is often considered a very traditional style of burlesque dancing, these two seductresses played it with a twist, being mirrored succubi to entice you in. We will return to Miss Kitty Bangbang for her final number in a moment.
Finally, the conclusion to the show, brought Kitty Bangbang back to the stage to get messy. To "Milkshake" by Kelis, our girl brought everyone, not just the boys to the yard in her red polka dotted dress and bright pink shake. Although everyone was invited, Dreamboat Willie and The Zak Ian came onto the stage with a kiddie pool and towels in tow. Stepping into the pool in nothing but cherry pasties and cute undies, Kitty poured that shake all over her body. The crowd, already crazy with how sexy she was, went wild! The boys on stage agreed, but decided that she needed to get cleaned up because the bow was next!
Although this account has focused on the Cirque performers of our troupe, that is not to say there were not amazing dancers on stage...that would be a lie.
Every show is full of beautiful, diverse, and fascinating people presenting their concept of sex appeal and seduction. This show had lollipop lovers, [toy] donkey punching, glitter herpes [seriously], and a howling good time. As always, we are thrilled to perform with SLO Tease and look forward to having you at the next show!
